Social Emotional Learning in the Classroom
Primary Grades: K-2 "The Little Spots"
Our Social Emotional Learning Plan for 2023-24 will utilize the book series "A Little Spot" by Diane Alber. We will read a book a week using the SEL Calendar below. Teachers will lead conversations and activities during their Morning Meeting on the current week's book. Counseling Classroom visits will further develop student understanding of the concepts taught in the series. The books are divided into three categories:
-
A Little Spot of Feelings
-
A Little Spot of Life Skills
-
A Little Spot Takes Action
You can visit the author's website to learn more about the books, see videos, and even purchase sticker books and plushies with the Little Spots. Click Here (This is not a paid promotion.) The author has given permission for recorded versions of her book to be shared with classes at Eastern.

Intermediate Grades: 3-5 "7 Habits"

Our Social Emotional Learning Plan for 2023-24 will be learning about the 7 Habits of Happy Kids! You may be familiar with the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. We will be learning about how these habits can help kids! We will be reading books, watching videos, having discussions, and doing activities to learn how to be happy and successful in school, career, and relationships with others. Most of the SEL Lessons for 3-5 students will be completed during the first semester. The 7 Habits are: Be Proactive, Begin with the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Seek First to Understand and then to be Understood, Think Win Win, Synergize, Sharpen the Saw.
